Southampton's Billy Morgan has won a bronze medal for Team GB at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

He secured third place in the men's snowboarding big air competition, a record fifth medal for Great Britain.  Having failed to land his opening jump of the final, Morgan needed to score on both his remaining attempts to keep his chances alive.

28 year old Morgan, who has struggled with a knee injury during the past season, landed a trick he has never been able to do in the competition before.

However, landing the front-side 1440 triple with mute and tail-grab earned him a score of 85.50. With an 82.50 also on the scoreboard for Morgan, it was a nervous wait to see if the remaining two snowboarders could put in higher scores and knock him off the podium.

Having been just 0.75 off a potential silver medal, it looked like Morgan might miss out altogether with three time X Games champion Max Parrot waiting in the wings.

But when Parrot failed to land his trick under pressure, Morgan was confirmed as the bronze medal winner. Just under an hour ago, he joined Sebastian Toutant (Canada) and Kyle Mack (USA) on the podium.
