Poole Cycle Speedway Club hosted their prestigious Ade Gale Laurels meet on Sunday afternoon in torrential rain at Harbourside Park.

Highlights of both the senior and women’s laurels are available in the first posted video.

The full event video of both the women’s and the senior races are also available in the second and third posted videos.

Both the women's and the senior competitions featured 16 riders and 20 heats. This meant that the riders would race five heats each and the person with the most points would win.

Lukas Nowacki would be crowned as the senior laurels champion after those five heats in difficult conditions.

He dropped just one point from the meet to finish up on 19 points in a field that looked pretty wide open up until the end.

Matt Smith and Paul Heard could have ended up on the rostrum but results didn’t quite go their way.

The latter could potentially have finished in second overall but for a controversial exclusion in his final heat.

Ultimately, a key win for Zac Payne over Dawid Bas and Ben Mould saw him finish second with 16 ½ before Mould beat Bas to the third place spot in the run off. Both men had finished on 16.

In the earlier women’s laurels, defending champion Lauren Hookway had to settle for second place as new British Champion Macie Schmidt secured the title with a flawless five wins from five heats.

Chloe Pearce would finish third after losing out to Hookway in a run off that also saw Lizzie Rigley miss out on a place on the rostrum.

All three ladies finished the meet on 18 points behind Schmidt who finished on the perfect 20.

The morning’s junior event was won by Ed Morton.
