Merley started confidently against Sherborne, looking for their first points of the season and the home side didn't have to wait long.

Lee Wilkins headed the hosts in front from a Dan Edwards corner after 5 minutes. Matt Groves made it 2-0 on 8 minutes, catching a Jack Mills cross on the volley at the back post and Edwards went close on 19 minutes as Merley looked to further extend their lead.

From nowhere, Merley's 'keeper had to pull off a strong handed save as Sherborne made a rare appearance in the Merley box on 21 minutes. This spurred Merley into action, with Asa Phillips slotting home after a solo run through the Sherborne defence on 24 minutes for 3-0. Ellis George was next on the scoresheet four minutes later having been put through by Edwards.

Groves found the net again on the half hour after a slide rule pass from Ben Satterley for 5-0. Jack Mills followed up his rampage down the left wing with a well struck drive into the roof of the net for 6-0 on 35 minutes. Merley still weren't finished though as Phillips added his second of the game with a tap in from a Wilkins assist.

Half time - Merley Cobham 7-0 Sherborne Town

Phillips almost grabbed his hat trick on 50 minutes but saw his lob come back off the crossbar before Wilkins made it 8-0 on 55 minutes after a great move down the right hand side.

With such attacking dominance, Merley switched off for a second and were denied a clean sheet when Sherborne's striker found his consolation goal, finishing well from 10 yards out on 59 minutes.

Wilkins completed his hat trick on just two minutes later heading home a Jamie Moores cross for 9-1. The onslaught continued, with Moores, Phillips and Edwards all seeing headers go just wide, before Groves completed the scoring and his hat trick on 85 minutes after being slid through by Satterley.
