The British Rowing Offshore Championships took place at Sandbanks beach in Poole this past weekend.

Highlights of the days racing are available in the posted video. Extended race footage is also available as instant downloads from the rowing section of our Online Store (click here for the direct link).

The weekend's competition featured finals in the coastal single, double and quad events as well as representatives from south coast club's Itchen Imperial, Dover, Exmouth and Falmouth.

Mayflower ORC (Plymouth) were the most successful of south coast's clubs as Fiona Carmichael became national champion in the women's single scull.

Itchen, who will be most recognisable to regular SCJ viewers entered their HDARA Men’s Senior Fours championship crew in the quad sculls, just missing out to Tyrian and taking a respectable second place.

Before each race, the crews or scullers line up in gates on the beach to make their final preparations. From there, they place the boats in the water and stand next to them.

When go is shouted, the crews jump into the boats and begin to race away from the beach to the first of several large turning marks on either a 4K or 6K course.

At the finish, the boats race into the beach and the bowman or individual sculler jumps out, races up the beach and crosses the finish line.
