The next South Coast Championships Rowing Regatta, which is the 61st edition, is being hosted alongside of the 12th South Coast Junior Regatta by the Hants & Dorset Amateur Rowing Association.

It’ll take place on Saturday, September 2nd 2017 at Dorney Lake, Eton- which was also the venue for the 2012 Olympic Regatta and the South Coast Rowing Championships in 2007 and 2011.

Dorney was chosen as the location for the regatta by the Hants & Dorset ARA due to it being a prestigious, multi-lane international standard, high profile rowing course. It gives an opportunity to people of all levels to experience racing at the Olympic venue.

Dorney has the best facilities for the athletes, and the course basically guarantees the event being held no matter how tough the weather conditions are.

The venue of Eton Dorney was decided for the Championship after exploring traditional Hants and Dorset venues, such as Swanage, Western Shore and the I.W, which are all vulnerable to the weather.

Eton Dorney is a purposely built rowing course owned by Eton College. The lake has eight lanes, and was opened in June 2000.

The lake has previously been used for the World Rowing Championships 2006, the World Junior Championships 2011, the Rowing Regatta and Canoeing events for the 2012 Olympics, and the South Coast Championships in 2007 and 2011 along with the under 16 Regattas.

The course has eight fully buoyed lanes over 2200 metres, along with a return lane.

The lake can be made available for training in the days prior to the Championship, however there will be a charge for this. The spectators are provided with a fantastic view of the course. Plenty of racking is also available.

There is no accommodation on site, but locally there are B&B’s, hotels and university campus accommodation.
