Hannah Snellgrove achieved European success earlier this month as she won the women's Laser Radial section of the Hoorn Europa Cup in Holland.

The competition has both men and women race at the same time and Hannah finished 3rd overall behind Ireland's Johnny Durcan and Poland's Marcin Rudawski.

Hannah, who lives in Lymington, had a relatively consistent run of results including three 4th place finishes and a fifth amongst a 12th and an 8th. The wheels briefly appeared to come off in the final race, where she was well down in 57th, but that result was discarded.

Her best result was in race four where she took the victory, edging eventual runner up Rudawski into second place on that occasion.

Hannah finished the series with a total of 38 points with a comfortable 10 point gap to fourth placed Ewan McMahone from Ireland.

The results meant that she won the women's section by almost 75 points. The next lady was Daphne Van Der Vaart from Holland who was 8th overall whilst fellow Briton Ellie Cumpsty was third for the women.

After not doing any regular training in the Laser Radial itself, Hannah was pleasantly surprised that she wasn't slower. She described the conditions as being quite windy on the opening day but they became progressively lighter before the end of the series.

Hannah was the highest placed british sailor. Cumpsty was next and earned herself 10th place out of over 80 sailors, squeezing into the top 10 by just 3 points and taking third in the women's section.

Chloe Barr took 21st and was just a few places ahead of the first british man, Ben Elvin, who was 24th overall.

The other British sailors to compete in the Laser Radial category at the Europa Cup were Clementine Thompson (27th), Arthur Brown (71st) and Daniel Wigmore (81st).
