LOCAL SAILORS WIN RED BULL YOUTH AMERICA'S CUP

Land Rover BAR Academy have won the Red Bull Youth America's Cup in a dramatic final race in Bermuda.

Highlights of the final race along with interviews with skipper Rob Bunce, a member at Hurst Castle Sailing Club, strategist Annabell Vose (Southampton) and trimmer Sam Batten (Lymington) is available in the posted video.

The Portsmouth based British boat went into the final day at the top of the overall standings but wins for New Zealand in races one and two brought them to within touching distance of Land Rover BAR.

Bunce's crew had struggled a little yesterday but were picking up enough points to keep their noses in front.

When it came down to the final race, New Zealand again raced out into the lead and took their third win of the day. They had done everything they could to try and snatch the Youth America's Cup from Britain's grasp.

However, Land Rover BAR won their battles with Switzerland, who briefly lost a man overboard, and Spain to take full advantage of an incident on the final mark between Sweden and Germany.

Artemis Racing squeezed Germany onto the mark and were awarded a penalty. This left the door wide open for Britain to hold off Spain and take second, winning the Youth America's Cup in the process.
